Doorstep scrap pickup, Delhi NCR
Key points
- Keep newspaper, mixed paper and cardboard in separate piles.
- Store paper dry — damp paper is downgraded.
- Remove polybags, tape-heavy wrapping and thermocol from cartons.
- Tie newspapers in bundles; flatten boxes.
Three piles, not one
Newspaper, mixed paper (magazines, books, office paper) and cardboard are different grades. One heap gets you the lowest rate for everything. Three piles take two minutes and are weighed separately.
Keep it dry
Paper stored on a balcony through the monsoon absorbs moisture and is downgraded. A shelf indoors, or a covered corner, keeps it in good shape.
Remove what is not paper
Polybag covers on magazines, plastic packing, thermocol and lots of tape on cartons all reduce quality. Strip them out before weighing.
Bundle and flatten
Tie newspapers into bundles with string and flatten cartons. Weighing is quicker and you can see exactly what goes on the scale.
Books worth a second life
Before putting old textbooks into raddi, check if a younger student, a library or an NGO could use them. Raddi is the last stop, not the first.
Questions
Is cardboard worth more than newspaper?
They are different grades and are priced separately. Keep them apart so each is weighed on its own.
How often should I sell raddi?
Every month or two is typical for a household.
