Why a dead appliance is not worthless
ACs and fridges contain copper tubing and a compressor; washing machines have a motor and a metal drum. That material has value whether or not the appliance works.
Exchange offer or sell separately?
Exchange offers fold the old appliance into the new purchase price, so it is hard to see what you are being paid for it. Ask the store for the price without exchange, and ask a buyer what they would pay for the old unit. Compare the two.
Old ACs: keep the copper pipe
A split AC has indoor and outdoor units connected by copper piping. That piping is worth keeping with the unit when you sell. Do not let it disappear during uninstallation.
Refrigerant gas should not be released into the air. Ask the buyer how the unit will be handled.
Working appliances
A working fridge or washing machine of a recent model is worth more as a second-hand appliance than as scrap. Mention the brand and age when you ask for an offer.
Getting it out of the house
Fridges and washing machines need two people on stairs. When the buyer is purchasing, uninstallation, carrying and transport should be included.
