Doorstep scrap pickup, Delhi NCR
Key points
- Pick a Sunday morning and give residents a week's notice.
- Decide between flat-to-flat pickup or a collection point — or both.
- Every resident should be weighed and paid individually.
- Make it recurring — monthly or quarterly.
Why a drive works better
Societies limit who can enter, so residents struggle to find a kabadiwala they can let in. A single scheduled drive by a known team solves that for guards and residents together.
Pick a date and inform residents
Sunday mornings get the best turnout. Post a notice on the residents' WhatsApp group a week before, and a reminder the evening before, listing what will be collected.
Collection point or door to door?
A collection point near the gate is fast for paper, plastic and small items. Door-to-door pickup is better for furniture and appliances. Large societies often use both.
Add an e-waste corner
Old phones, chargers, batteries and small electronics are easy to forget. A separate e-waste table on the same day clears them out too.
Make it a routine
A monthly or quarterly drive keeps balconies and store rooms clear and gives residents a date to plan around.
Questions
Does the RWA need to pay anything?
No. The drive is free for the society; residents are paid for their scrap.
