Brass is copper alloyed with zinc, and the copper share is what a smelter is paying for. That is why clean yellow honey brass sits near the top of the range while chrome-plated bathroom fittings and mixed gunmetal sit noticeably below it.
Plating is the detail that catches most sellers out. A chrome or nickel-plated tap still contains good brass, but the plating has to be removed in processing and that cost comes out of the rate. We will show you which pieces are plated before weighing rather than making the adjustment quietly afterwards.

What is the brass scrap rate today?
Clean honey brass typically runs ₹415–455 per kg, plated fittings ₹300–350, and turnings ₹280–340. Brass tracks copper, so when copper moves brass follows within a day or two. Confirm the figure on the day you sell.
How do I tell brass from bronze or gunmetal?
Brass is yellower; bronze and gunmetal are browner or pinker because they carry tin rather than zinc. A file test on a hidden edge shows the true colour under any tarnish. Practically, if it came off a bearing, bush or pump impeller it is usually gunmetal; if it came off a tap or a utensil it is brass.
Are chrome-plated taps worth selling?
Yes — the plating is thin and the body underneath is solid brass. They price roughly ₹80–100 per kg below unplated honey brass to cover the de-plating step, which still makes a box of old taps well worth collecting rather than discarding.
Do you buy brass idols and temple items?
In bulk, yes, at the honey brass or utensil rate depending on condition. For single antique or artistically significant pieces you will almost certainly do better selling to a dealer in antiques than to a scrap buyer — we will tell you if we think that is the case.
