In short
- Free survey before we quote anything — we do not price a job from a photograph.
- Two figures, shown separately: the cost of the work and the value of the material recovered.
- Our own insured crew, equipment and vehicles. Nothing subcontracted to a team you have not met.
- Full documentation: method statement, insurance, weighment records, gate passes and GST invoice.
Diesel generator sets are among the most commonly stranded assets in NCR buildings. Grid supply improved, the emission norms changed, the building switched to a newer set — and a perfectly substantial machine has been sitting under a tarpaulin for three years quietly corroding.
We buy DG sets in any condition, running or seized, and transformers of every type. Sets with service life left are assessed for resale first. Fuel and transformer oil are drained and contained by us and routed through authorised disposal, because used oil is a regulated waste and tipping it is not an option.
What the scope covers
- Diesel generator sets
- 5 kVA to 2000 kVA, canopied or open, running or seized, any make.
- Alternators
- Brushless and brush-type alternators sold separately from the engine.
- Engines
- Diesel engines, marine and industrial, complete or as blocks.
- Distribution transformers
- Oil-filled and dry-type, copper or aluminium wound, all ratings.
- Control panels & AMF
- AMF panels, synchronising panels, changeover switches and controllers.
- Fuel systems
- Day tanks, bulk storage tanks, pumps and pipework.
How the job runs
Nameplate & photos
kVA rating, make, model, year and hours run if the counter still works. Photographs of the set, canopy and control panel.
Assessment
Resale or scrap. A running set from a major make with reasonable hours has strong resale demand; a seized set is valued on its metal and alternator copper.
De-installation
Fuel and coolant drained and contained, batteries removed, electrical isolated, exhaust and mounts released, set lifted onto the vehicle.
Payment & disposal
Settled before the set leaves. Used oil and coolant routed to authorised handlers, and you receive the record.
How it is priced
We quote two numbers and keep them separate: what the removal costs, and what the recovered material is worth. Blending them into one figure hides which side of the trade you are on. Where the material value exceeds the removal cost you receive a net payment; where it does not, you pay the difference and nothing more.
Nothing is added afterwards for labour, transport or disposal. If the survey missed something genuinely unforeseen we come back to you before doing the work, not after.
Questions we get asked
What is an old DG set worth?
It depends heavily on whether it runs. A working set from a recognised make retains real resale value — often several times its scrap value. A seized or stripped set is valued on metal content, with the alternator copper being the largest single component. Send the nameplate photo and we will give you a figure before anyone travels.
Do you buy sets that have not run in years?
Routinely — that is most of what we see. A set that has stood for years usually needs assessment rather than assumption: sometimes it turns over and is worth far more than expected, sometimes it is seized solid. Either way we buy it.
Who deals with the diesel and the transformer oil?
We do. Fuel is drained and contained, and transformer oil is pumped out into sealed drums. Both go to authorised handlers and you receive the disposal record. Used transformer oil in particular should never be tipped or sold informally — it is a regulated waste with real environmental consequences.
Can you lift a set from a basement or terrace?
Usually. Basement plant rooms and terrace installations are common in NCR buildings, and we handle them with skates, chain pulleys and, for terraces, a crane where access allows. The survey confirms the method and any crane cost is stated in the quote rather than added later.
